Downs, Edwards and Patau NHS screening
We produced 15 short films for the NHS screening programmes e-learning platform. The films which are aimed at midwifes and sonographers use real patients, clinicians and actors to explore the complex and sensitive issues that surround screening choices and receiving a higher risk result. As well as explore the clinical pathways for screening, they also look at the role of quality assurance and maintaining standards.

Using the Mental Capacity Act in the Community
There have been several films made about the Mental Capacity Act, but few show how to use the principles of the act in everyday practice. We developed, scripted and produced two scenarios for this purpose. We used actors, including Tommy Jessop (a wonderful actor who has downs syndrome) to show how to carry out an assesment and keep accurate records.

A film made for Gary Linekar’s ‘Fight for Life’ charity in 2016. In this film we caught up with six children and young adults to find out how there lives were progressing post cancer treatment. Together they reflect on the difference the charity made to their radiotherapy experience.

‘Learning through Reflection’ - London Borough of Islington
These four short dramatic films use actors to look at the conflicts that can arise between social workers and families. The scripts were developed by us and look at subjects such as ‘Best Interests’, ‘Money’, ‘Transition planning’ and ‘Reviews’. We cast the actors, arranged locations, props and shot lists then filmed and edited the final 45min film. It will be used to assist in the education of new and existing social workers.

Neonatal recruitment films
Working at a Level 3 Neonatal Unit is one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs. We were incredibly fortunate to film with families and staff in the unit over three days. The content was then edited together by us, we met with the client twice to preview and make final changes to the edit before publishing them on Youtube and on the trust site.

A day in the life of UCLH
This 13 min film showcases the world class care at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We filmed at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Heart Hospital, Royal National Hospital for Throat nose and ear, the Macmillan Cancer centre and the Institute for sports, exercise and health. Interviewing staff and patients and gathering illustrative footage. The content was edited together with the films narrative naturally formed from those working at the trust.

We were commissioned by Southampton General Hospital to produce a series of films to help children and young adults understand the clinical pathway involved in radiotherapy. The film involved staff as well as current and previous patients from the unit. We filmed in the Mould rooms, CT as well as in the treatment room.

‘Putting myself into words’ - Richmond Council
This 20min film was commissioned by Richmond Council to highlight the challenges those on the Autistic Spectrum disorder face in everyday life. The aim of the film was to raise awareness and to think about ways of adapting healthcare and police services to the specific needs of those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The film features 5 local families, IV’s with GP and Police representatives and selective dramatic reconstructions using actors.

“Learn with us” - London borough of Islington
This film is receiving national recognition as a training tool for staff who work with people with a learning disability and their families.
Family carers, and staff in day and residential services and supported housing, share their experiences to increase their understanding of each other. The aim is to help them work better together in a partnership that benefits the person with the learning disability.

SEPT Staff Values
We developed scenarios and scripts to highlight the right and wrong way of staff at South East Partnership Trust to greet patients at an inpatient service. We used four actors that we have worked with before to play our mental health inpatient, staff and patient. Viewers are encouraged to identify bad examples of staff behaviour before seeing the good examples.
We regret that due to the sensitivity of the subject matter this film cannot be shown on the site.

13 × 1min introductions to each of the evenings awards. Each film was presented by a member of the board and featured graphical overlay of nominees in action.

This film was produced with NHS Screening to inform parents about the procedure and clinical pathway involved in the Newborn hearing screening test. We scripted and recorded a voiceover to go with footage of the test being undertaken, the film is now being used nationally.

Health and Safety Films - First Bus
During 2010 – 2014 we worked with First Bus, one of the country largest transport contractors to produce over 8 in house training films to help improve the fault diagnosis, repair and maintenance skills of their employees. These included Fire safety, good practice guides and SOP training. Filming under a bus from a maintenance pit was a challenge, especially from a cleanliness point of view.

Sickle Cell and Thalassemia E Learning
These simple talking head IV’s were to form individiual clips within a larger elearning package. They had to be filmed in one day in one very dull looking office. We suggested using our greenscreen backdrop so we could add in our own clinical backgrounds in the post production. Its a technique that sometimes works well for healthcare environments where filming can be seen as intrusive.

Wellbeing in later life - Age UK
In 2013 we worked with Ageuk and the university of sussex to produce a film that captured a collaborative research project they were undertaking entitled ‘Wellbeing in later life’.
The final films narrative was created by combining scripted voiceover, researcher interviews, footage from older people engaged in Age UK services, as well as dramatic reconstruction featuring actors playing social workers to produce a training resource that will help those who work with older people to adapt and personalise the services they offer.

Expanded Newborn Screening - NHS Screening
The heel prick test for newborns underwent a national change to increase the number of conditions that the blood was now screened for. We worked with clinicians, scientists and parents to produce several short films to train clinical staff about the new test.
